History witnessed a number of male as well as female freebooters who created the panic among the people. The pirates like John Rackham, Edward Teach, Bartholomew Roberts, Anne Bonny, Grace O’Malley, Ching Shih and so on are famous today also among the lovers of the pirate lifestyles. The pirate clothes named after all these raiders are gaining huge popularity nowadays. All these freebooter had to combat with the navies. Some of them were caught and killed.

Now, the question that is raised in the minds of a number of people is – who was the most successful freebooter of history? Usually, the name of Bartholomew Roberts, better known as Black Bart, is taken in this respect. But, when we analyzed the history of pirates, we found that there is one more nominee, whom we can consider the most successful, and an interesting thing is that the aforesaid raider was a female. We are talking about Ching Shih – a famous Chinese pirate. Black Bart was undoubtedly the most successful freebooter in the western world, but when we see in the global context, we find that this female pirate seems above him.

Bartholomew remained active in America and West Africa from 1719 to 1722. He overpowered the small forces. It is a known fact that he slaughtered a number of people in the Dutch gun vessel, and cut the ears of the Dutch captain. But, still we find it difficult to compare him with Ching Shih in terms of power. She made the longest navy of 17000 men. This navy was so strong that nobody could overpower it. First, Shih defeated the forces of Qing dynasty in China with the help of her navy. When the king of the dynasty took the help of English and Portuguese – the two superpowers of that era, Shih defeated them also. Now, it is not a small thing that the lady defeated those superpowers through her pirate navy, who colonized a large part of the world. Even the royal navies of several nations were also feel it difficult to defeat them. On the other hand, Bartholomew was finally killed in a battle in 1722. But, Shih died a natural death in the age of 69. The desperate king offered her pardon, which she accepted. Finally, she opened a brothel and a gambling den and married her husband’s first mate. So, the fact cannot be denied that she was even stronger than Bartholomew.

One thing that was common about both was that they made some pirate codes of conducts in their areas. There was the provision of punishment for those, who would disobey the rules. Both these pirates are widely popular among the fashion lovers today, and the pirate clothing in their names has gained widespread popularity.
